Craig has been on vacation for the past week so we got a few things done around here. One of those things was my Mother's Day gift. From Liam I got the fluffy soft pink pillow. From Craig I got a rebuilt raised bed. Complete with wonderful new dirt!
My men hard at work.
As my men worked hard I took some pictures and planted seedlings. The bed that is behind the tarp covered fire pit and to the right of the yard debris bin is the bed that will be convalescing this year. The summer before last we hired a teen to dig it up, put in new dirt and then I planted strawberries. Last year it struggled a little and this year the grass took over...again....! The berries are in bad shape. All the strawberries are in bad shape. Not sure what happened this year. But anyway. Since this picture was taken I have pulled out all the weeds and it is now ready to cover with a tarp and let rest.
And here is my Mother's Day bed full of dirt and planted with cantaloupe, cauliflower and cabbage. I found a nursery in Salem that is still selling cabbage seedlings! The plants in the tires are ground cherries. Liam loves to munch on them.
Here is the tomato bed finished and growing happily. I even popped some bok choy in a couple empty areas. They will be harvested long before the tomato plants need the space.
Last Thursday we took a drive to the beach in Lincoln City. It was supposed to be 83 here in the valley so going to a sunny 73 degrees sounded really good to us. Well...we got there and not only was there no sun...but with the wind chill it might have been 43 degrees....and with a water temperature of around 36 (and I might be being very optimistic about those numbers) lets just say I was thinking 83 wasn't sounding too bad! But did Liam let a little thing like frigid temps slow him down? Nooooooooo!

Craig also took a selfie of him and I with his phone but somehow none of the pictures he took downloaded into my file. Technology....it can be great...it can be a curse.
I am not sure if I shared this picture and the story from earlier this month. This is my niece Jacqueline and she is performing at a function put on for Christian schools in the state. She was singing and playing a popular Christian song. I had never heard it but from the audiences response she did a very good job. She got a superior and an invitation to perform in Florida! She gets this from me you know. Really! So....that brings me to what we found on my phone after Jacqueline had had it for a few minutes. This would so embarrass her if she read my blog!
Just a taste of Jacqueline in action!
So I will leave you with a Liamism: Two days ago, right out of the blue, he says to me "Mom, do you wish you had a girl?"
Wondering what the heck brought that on and a little shocked I replied 'I wanted a girl until I got you and then I wanted a boy and I am so happy God gave me a boy! You are perfect!'
I thought that was pretty good!
"Yes you do wish you had a girl!"
'Why?' I asked.
"Because boys do gross things."
Well....he had me there.
