Eat Something On A Stick Day
Yesterday was National Eat Something on a Stick Day. So, David and Liam ate their pancakes on a stick. My plan had been to do all our meals in a stick but time got away from me and I happened to look at the calendar for another reason and discovered I had forgotten to prepare.
There are so many different national days and I intend on having fun with as many as apply. April 26th is Hug an Aussie Day...just so happens we have one of those living with us right now. Yup...though David was born in Washington state he moved to Australia with his parents at the age of one and calls that country home. I'll see if I can loan him out for hugging.
And to give you a heads up if you want to join the fun, April 2nd is Peanut Butter and Jelly Day and the 7th is No Housework Day...to bad it falls on a Sunday this year...I don't generally clean house on Sunday's. But there is always next year. The 8th is Draw a Picture of a Bird Day, Name Yourself Day is the 9th. The 24th is Pig in a Blanket Day and National Zucchini Bread Day is the 25th. Babe Ruth Day is the 27th if you are into sports. There sure are some fun and funny ones.
We had another beautiful day...I think it was supposed to be around 70. And it was every bit that warm. I did quite a bit of work in the kitchen so didn't get out to weed. I won't have time to do that until Monday at least. Knowing Oregon, by then it will be raining again. We have a weed here...I think God is punishing us for being a liberal state with this weed...it's seeds are projectiles. And when it is ready and you ever so slightly brush against it, those seeds launch for several feet! And into your hair and eyes and just about anyplace. Right now those weeds are big and too young to launch yet...now is the time to get them. Boy...sitting here now I am kicking myself for not taking care of that today.
The Lord has been convicting me lately about the time I am NOT spending in church. I have only been going on Sunday mornings, even though one of the promises I made to Him was that Liam would be in church every chance we got. So last night I went to our mid-week service. They have a wonderful children's program and Liam needs to be in that each week. Our church has a fabulous group of teens. They stand head and shoulders above any teen in any other church I have ever been to. And that is what I want Liam to aspire to. The group he is growing up with are predominantly home schooled in like minded families. I just feel so blessed to have found this church. I knew from the first visit that I would call it home for as long as I draw breath.
Last night was the final Missionary visiting during Missions Month which is March. He is a Missionary to Germany and was quite interesting to listen to. One thing that really caught my attention was the need they have over there for national pastors. National pastors being men from that country. Who already know the language and culture. There is a ministry that supports national pastors. They also support students going into the ministry and orphans that have found a home with a National Pastor. That part didn't make sense to me until I realized that by supporting that orphan it frees up the pastor and his funds to take in another. The web site is www.gospelink.org. I am planning on our family supporting an orphan. I learned about this organization through a wonderful book series written by Sarah Maxwell. The Moody Family is a wonderful, fictional, family that homeschools and welcomes all the babies the Lord gives them. Sarah Maxwell sprinkles in events from her and her families life throughout it. It is geared toward a younger crowd than me but I still enjoy it so much I am almost done with my second time through. Back to the subject...I am going to share this organization with my pastor. Who knows what the church might be willing to do? One of the things that made me know that this church was where I wanted to be was my first visit happened to be while they were gearing up for Missions Month. That is when I found out that the church that barely had 100 people on a good Sunday helped to support 50 missionaries! This tiny church takes in over $51,000 a year just for the support of missionaries!
Back to church attendance. I recently had blood work done that showed my thyroid and adrenals were barely functioning and that my testosterone and Vitamin D levels were very very low. That explained my horrible fatigue. I now plan on being in the choir again and Sunday evening church as well. My husband, though a believer, is not walking with the Lord right now. That makes me feel more compelled to have Liam in church as often as I am able. So last night was good. I did end up spending the balance of the service with the children. Liam loved it and I enjoyed watching him with his friends. Next week I will stay with the 'big people'.
I will close with a cute little thing Liam did today. He said "David, I have a secret" when David leaned over to hear it Liam whispered "secret". Where does he learn these things?! Every day is amazing and new and fun and we never have a dull moment.
