Though we are admonished in the Bible to be thankful in all things and at all times, life has a way of disrupting that train of thought from time to time....and time to time. Being thankful is mentioned nearly 60 times in the Bible! And it probably won't surprise you that the majority of them are in Psalms. King David was a very thankful man. He went through so much as he fled King Saul and his armies. And yet he was thankful and praised God at every turn. He didn't let his hardships turn him from his God. He clung even more to Him.
Wasn't God good to give us such a human example as David was? A normal every day man. A sinner. Yet God used him. Turning him into a mighty king. Blessing his life. David is a good example of a thankful spirit. I know for myself I let even the smallest thing come between me and a thankful heart. I can easily turn a tiny little problem into a huge catastrophe in seconds. And I have so very much to be thankful for. I have a precious little boy who is the miracle answer to prayer! I have a good, hard working husband. I have a wonderful church family. I have a beautiful home. I have dear friends and family who love me. I live in a country that is blessed by God and I still have freedom to own a Bible, attend church.....and Jesus would have gone to the cross if I was the only person on earth! That knowledge alone, salvation, should be enough to make me sing all day long!
One of the things I am especially thankful for are the wonderful grandparents I was so blessed to grow up knowing. My grandma and grandpa Sellon were the best grandparents a kid could want! I am remembering a special part of our childhood visits to their home. Grandpa was always doing things with us. Taking us to get the mail and walk on the beach was a daily excursion in his rusty little red Datsun pickup. The kitchen drawer that had his rolls of lifesavers, him sneaking his glass of milk to whichever one of us was closest. But the memory I want to really visit right now is 'going over the fence'. Beyond the fence in the back of their yard was a magical wonderland for us. There was the house that was crumbling into the ground. The old model A or T or some such vehicle from the 20's rusting beside it. Our dad pretending to be a bear in the bushes and we fell for it every time. Then we would wonder down to the Myrtlewood tree. Climbing up to see our moms initials, put there when she was a kid and grandpa carving ours in the tree as well. Then to the eerie pump house. Walking over the rickety planks surrounded by skunk cabbage and knowing that the slightest misstep would land you in the deepest darkest swamp. At least it seemed deep and dark to a kid! Then back to the house, where grandma waited to clean out the grooves of our tennis shoes and serve us the finest pie in the whole wide world! We were well loved by our grandparents and we are so blessed to have these memories.
I hope that the friends and family in my life have a wonderful day! Food, fellowship, fun and especially Thankfulness!

I will leave you with a Liamism: Last night Liam and Craig made popcorn. It was the Jiffy one that fills up the foil pan....Liam loves watching that one pop! Anyway....I heard him say "I love you daddy, the way you are". Okay...I am starting to feel like chopped liver now.......I will leave you with a parting shot. I thought it was neat finding this clipart.
November of 1964 was a good year....you know....several years ago I got a fortune out of a cookie that said, 'The day you were born a problem was solved". I'm not kidding. I saved it for the longest time.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!!!!
