Back in October Liam dressed himself perfectly...one time....he has not shown much interest in doing it since. He did a lot of complaining when I asked him to put his shoes on. But was so proud I didn't have the heart to tell him they were on the wrong feet. Today he did the same thing and refused to let me change them. Pricelss!
I know I said my next post would be garden things and so it shall as I found the picture I took of our beds tucked in for the winter. Due to how difficult it has been for us to work the ground with such huge and plentiful weeds each spring we decided to cover them with black plastic this winter and see what happens. I know that the black plastic can sour the soil but I am thinking since it is not laid on the soil and will only be on until April or thereabouts we should be fine. Here is a picture of the two largest beds.

I just have to accept the fact that there is nothing we can humanely do to keep the weeds from growing between the rows. Only in the heat of summer when the gravel paths are getting no liquid at all do they stop growing. Though it gets very tiresome to hand water every other day as I have a lot to water, it beats having to stoop over in the heat and pull weeds! That area in the center right side of the picture has been my nemesis for 6 years! Next spring I am finally giving in to its demands. I am going to pick up (or make with Liam's help) some cement stepping stones. That way I can walk among the strawberry plants that insist on taking over without crushing strawberries.
On Thanksgiving day I got to open the last of my birthday presents from my mom. They waited until the family would be together for the shock and awe factor. While at their place a couple weeks ago we got on the prepper subject a little. My mom is huge on toilet paper and incandescent light bulbs. There may be no food to eat and no electricity but she is fully covered none the less. I told her that our bug out bags all have finger nail files (packs of them) and chap stick. Those are the two things I could never live without. So, the first thing I unwrapped was several packages of various size files. I also opened a chicken dinner MRE, a mosquito netting hat and a book on living without electricity. But way at the bottom of the bag was the shock and awe of the whole thing. An old Polish army gas mask complete in its bag with air cylinder...ready to go!

I had no idea my mom and step dad had this much sense of humor!
A couple days before Thanksgiving we were in Fred Meyer getting a couple things for the big dinner. I realized at one point that I still needed walnuts for the rocky road for my step dad. Right there in the isle I asked Craig to help me remember to remind him to pick some up from Winco after work in the morning. A woman overheard us and said that she had two walnut trees and wished she could find someone to take walnuts off her hands. Two days later I drove to her place (which is about three miles from me) and picked up a big bag of already dried English walnuts!!! While there Liam got to pet sheep and goats. It was all very exciting! These are the best walnuts I have ever eaten and if all walnuts tasted like these I would much on them all day long! The rocky road turned out perfect and make my step dad happy. And tomorrow I will be making more for a get together I am going to on Saturday and also will deliver a batch to the wonderful lady who gave me such a nice gift in these walnuts. She asked me to hang on to her number because along with walnuts she has apples and pears that need homes!! I am hoping this all works out next year! And I'm hoping the rocky road will help!

I realized when I was sharing all about my birthday gifts I forgot to mention one from my friend Sara. Quite a while back we had gone into a thrift store and there was a display with a few blue Inarco pieces. I have collected certain Inarco pieces for many years and there was one their I didn't have. But, I also have no room in my kitchen or hutch for anymore Inarco or chickens so I admired it then put it back and moved on. Well...Sara went back as soon as she was able and searched until she found it (things had gotten moved around) and here it is.....
Thank you so much Sara!! It fits perfectly right on the counter!
And I will now leave you with a Liamism. He has taken to carrying all his blankies with him from room to room. That is 8 blankies including Boo Bankie which is numero uno! The other day he and daddy were heading downstairs and Liam asked for help getting all the blankets down with him. Craig said something to the effect of 'if you think you need to pack all those down stairs then you need to figure out a way to do it' that just reminded me that one time I said sort of the same thing to him and he went and got his footstool (which is a fabric covered box with a lid) and filled it with his blankies and down the stairs he went! So daddy said that to him and Liam responded....'when you are my age you try to carry all these blankets down". I love the way that precious brain works!!
Have a wonderful evening friends.......
