It seems that every time I turn around Liam has the camera and is taking pictures. Generally they are selfies. This time Sheepie got in on the act.
I was hoping to get a post in for Mother's Day. But as you can see I missed it. But since it is right now 12:40 am, I didn't miss it by much. I received a wonderful card in the mail on Saturday from Auntie Pam wishing me a happy Mother's day. Thank you Pam! From Liam I got a big heart pillow that says Happy Mother's Day. What is neat is that he remembered that I picked one up and cuddled with it while we were in Walmart last week. I commented on what a soft pillow it was. Okay...I did tell him that I would love a pillow like that.....and I did remind him a couple times. But he took Craig to them and picked the one out he wanted me to have.
This was my fifth mother's day! There were times over the years I thought I would never be a mom. And I had gotten so tired of people saying 'well your pets are your babies', or 'you are almost like Jacqueline's mom', or 'you are like a mom to those daycare children". People meant well but it seemed to only make the pain more intense. God has promises in the Bible about fertility, blessings, 'an heritage', and quiver fulls. He did not mean pets, as special as they are to us. He did not mean nieces, though at times she came very close. And he did not mean day care children, though he gave us children to care for that needed us as much as we needed them. He meant offspring, children that would call you mom, precious little lives that you would nurture and raise. But He is a God who still hears our prayers and still gives us miracles! Even though I thought so often I was praying to a brick wall, He heard every prayer. And He bottled every tear. And in His perfect timing He gave us the perfect little boy. And I have to add, He is a merciful God. He gave us a little boy who wants to please, is generally very compliant, is not strong willed and overly independent. Those little things make motherhood so much easier for this aging mother! I love being a mommy!!
Do you have a food item you enjoy eating when you are away from home but never seem to think about it at home? Well...I have several. Sandwich rollups are one of them. So I thought about them, at the same time I was grocery shopping, and happened to pick up what I needed to make them....and then, miracle of miracles....remembered to fix them before the meat went bad!!! That is something I am really working hard at...not letting food go bad. Anyway....

This was Liam's plate. Craig had macaroni salad and I had potato salad instead of the avocado. They were very yummy!
After this yummy dinner I asked Liam if he would like to help me plant the tomato plants. He gave a hearty YES and then I asked daddy if he would like to join us and carry out the big bag of compost he had brought home a few days before. His yes was a little less enthusiastic. But we got the job done.

Clearly it wasn't all bad.
Working in the compost.
His little kiddie pool is full of rain water so that is what he filled the watering can up with.
He did such a good job watering the plants. And he was very cheerful the whole time.
We don't actually turn or stir our compost like you are supposed to. I just dump kitchen scraps in at the top. Craig dumps in grass clippings and over time it comes out the bottom almost black and full of worms. We ran out of the bagged compost so finished things up with our own. I also spread it over the strawberries in one of the beds and a little in the raspberry bed. The worms were happy to get some wiggle room I imagine.
Here is the nearly finished product. There is room for 5 more at the end not pictured. I am trying tomatoes in this bed for the first time. It is much deeper and I think the plants will do better being able to get their roots way down. This is one of the beds that we covered with black plastic all winter. So wonderful to pull that off in the spring and have no work to do except loosen the soil a little!
So that is what is happening here. Pretty exciting!
I will leave you with a Liamism: The other day the two of them went to Walmart and left me at home. Ah...alone time! Anyway....when they got back the first thing Liam said to me as he walked in the door was that he fell, and he showed me how he fell, and that his knee had an owie on it. Before I could barely get the first word out about kissing it better he held up both hands and said "no mommy, you don't need to kiss it....it already feels better." As he grows up I am running out of jobs!
