The last couple days I have been thinking about my blog and how I am neglecting it. And my brother has not been asking me about it either. Maybe he has given up on me.
We have been busy around here. I have spent a lot of time working outside. There are now three beds planted and done. Lettuces are doing great! Cabbage is growing and looking healthy! It was a nice surprise when I pulled off the black plastic from two of the beds to find such wonderful loose good looking soil! Other than a few horsetail in the one I had no weeding to do! So the squash and cucumbers are all planted as well as the potatoes. Tomorrow my Mother's Day blueberry bushes will get planted and I will plant some of my tomatoes. It is getting exciting!
Speaking of horsetail...my sister called me a couple days ago...nearly in tears and so upset. She has horsetail in her garden area as well. Where I have been dealing with it for about 5 years and had gotten a grip on my emotions...she is new to all this and was ready to give up on her garden spot! It really is a horrible and evasive plant. I did a blog post last year where I included a picture of it. It is medicinal but once you have on you end up overrun and never able to get rid of it. There is one product you can purchase that will kill it...well...you can purchase it IF you live in the UK. So two days ago Craig sprayed a few with blackberry killer. So far not much change. When I get out and weed next I am going to pour some vinegar on some. That should eat through its waxy coating and maybe do some damage. Anyway, my sister has calmed down...she is not going to abandon her garden spot. But she has lost her innocence.
My apple trees have quite a few apples on them again this year. And unlike last year, I am going to spray for bugs this summer. I lost way too many apples to not. I would love to go totally organic but I feel that at least I can limit the amount of spray making them still safer than from the grocery store. I have a few blueberry bushes that are loaded like I have never seen before! And the funny thing is...they are the most out of the way bushes that sort of get neglected sometimes. Go figure. Strawberries are starting to ripen, we will get a few raspberries and I was happy to see a lot of tiny starts coming up in the raspberry bed. We got out and cleaned up the front porch and back patio. Gave all the outside furniture a good wash down and decided to repaint all the plastic chairs this year. I am going to use bright fun colors...maybe a yellow, orange, bright blue etc! I will for sure post pics when that job is done! I love bright colors! Lots of bright colors!
Tonight was the first night of Bunco for a group that just formed. I used to play with a group in La Pine many years ago. And off and on over the years I have played. So I was very excited when asked to join! I tied for the most losses and then lost that...I am the biggest loser! But I still had a wonderful time. Most of the ladies were from a church I attended several years ago. So now I have a once a month game night too look forward to. We all need that....except my sister....but that is another post!
Tomorrow is the Millersburg city wide garage sale. We have put a few things in a friends sale. Hopefully they will sell! I am going to do a little garage saling (evidently that is not a word) tomorrow before the rain comes. I am always on the look out for boys sweats (size 8 right now) and canning jars. We'll see what I can scare up.
Since I have no pictures to share this time I will leave you with two Liamisms: As all of you know you can come to a point where you have been called so much during the day that you can't help but tune everything out....well at least men can do that. Liam had been talking almost non stop all day. Mommy this and Mommy that....I sat at the computer and started to read. I admit...I was about as tuned out as a mother can get. "Mommy" I hear him say. "Mommy" again. Then "Mommy you need to say 'yes sweetheart what do you need'"
Last night on our way to church Liam was very upset. We had left daddy and daddy was who he wanted to be with..not me. He was crying and whining and carrying on and I was getting tired of it. Finally I told him that he needed to stop the crying and whining right now and get a better attitude or when we got to church I would help him get a better attitude. "Mommy, I am only whining now, I am not crying any more" he pointed out. He sounded so offended about having to correct me. At least he was smiling when we got to church!
