Four years ago today...late in the afternoon I answered the phone. It was the wife of the attorney we had worked with to adopt Liam. The judge had signed the papers...he was ours!!! What an amazing end to one part of this journey of being a mom. Though the best part of it had only just begun!
Five days old and such a cherub.
He is such a character. Such a funny sense of humor. Such a gentle spirit. Yesterday I was laying on the sofa not feeling all to swell with a cold. He climbed up on me and got his face right up to mine and said "smile mommy" then kissed me. You can bet I smiled! And you can bet I also forgot all the little moments of indiscretion that had happened prior to this. He melts my heart sometimes! It was such a special day when I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that no one could ever come and take him away from us.
I will leave you with a Liamism:
After giving him an orange that I had peeled and inadvertently set on a dried piece of cat food....
"ooooo mom, there is cat food on my orange, gross, you really messed up mommy"........but then he thanked me for taking it off. I sure love him!
