Two weeks ago I took my niece Jacqueline out for the day. I surprised her with an afternoon of painting at Surefire. A ceramics painting place. I had no idea what a perfectionist she is...you would never know it by looking at her bedroom! Well, it has been a while since I last was in her bedroom...she may have changed. At first I wasn't going to paint...just watch and visit with her. But I decided to make something for Liam. I am so glad I did. After talking to mom I found out that they had taken her and figured she didn't like to paint too much. In truth...them just standing over her made her feel like she was keeping them from something else. She told me how happy she was that I was painting also.
Jacqueline made the fish....oh she took so long and then when she picked up the stencil and saw that the paint had bled underneath, she was upset...I told her it looked fabulous! She seemed happy after that. I, of course, made the plate. After I had finished the painting and was putting away the stencil I found what would have been the PERFECT train stencil. It had not been put away! ARHG!! It would have fit perfectly on the plate whereas this one I had to really work hard to keep it in place. Oh well...we had a great time and then we had lunch at a Chinese restaurant. I enjoyed visiting with her. She is growing up so fast! She will be 13 in four months!!!! Oh My! She has been taller than me for about a year! Our next day is at the end of the month....Pray that I can keep my nails all the same length until then:)
When I gave him his plate he said "On mommy! Is this for me? It is so beautiful! I love it!" He carried it around all evening. And the next evening...and some of the next!
I finally got my peas! I could have sworn I had some in the freezer but found them nowhere! So today I got them soaking...thank you Auntie Pam for telling me about this! I am thinking that next Wednesday or Thursday I will be able to get them planted! It will be so great to get something planted in the dirt! Today also...way behind schedule, I pruned the rose bushes, fruit trees and grapes. What a lot of outside work I have to do! Seems spring is always that way! We still have stuff needing to go to the yard debris part of the dump from last year! It has been covered but it will still be a wonderful mess to load. And all the walkways are full of weeds again. That is an ongoing problem. But once I get them under control it really is only a small amount of my time each week. Today was a fairly warm day...Liam was again convinced it was perfect for getting in his pool. Bless his heart:) He will enjoy swimming lessons again this summer.
I will leave you with a Liamism....he asked me to sing him a song at bedtime recently. I used to sing to him every night...Lock Lomond, Amen and then Jingle Bells were his requests. So to have him ask for a song after so long took me pleasantly by surprise. I asked him which song..."a train song mommy." I don't know any train songs Liam..."It's okay mommy, I'll learn you one.' And he did.
