The snow started falling on the 6th. We ended up with about an inch and then the cold took hold. We were down into the single digits at night. One night was 4 degrees! We don't typically have temperatures that low so it was a new experience for us. Though in the very back of my mind it seems the winter of '83 was below zero for a few days, I am hearing that it is the coldest winter since '72. I remember that winter. I walked home from school at that time and remember pulling an icescicle out of a cyclone fence post that had no topper. It was a 3 foot post and that ice was thick all the way down it and through it. This happened over there by Claude street, Pam. So we took a walk in the snow while it was still falling. Liam was not much interested in walking. He wanted to play. So he made his first snow angel.
I was worried about the little birds not having access to water so Craig found the bird bath heater and here he is getting that going for them. It took them a full day to work up the courage to go to it but after that there were a whole lot of baths and drinks going on! That bird bath heater keeps the water almost balmy!
Then I took a few pictures around the yard of the bird tracks in the snow and the apples that were being feasted on still hanging in the tree.
Kale and Swiss Chard winter over in our area very nicely. This winter....not so much.
I kept two feeders going so little feathered tummies had plenty of food to help them stay warm.
On the 7th I went to the Christmas Bazaar that is held each year at the Baptist church here in town. I got honey from the local honey man. Liam has a spoonful each day to take down his allergy pill and to help with his allergies. I also got a couple jars of the cherry pepper jelly that is so heavenly. I helped serve lunch since so many volunteers had not been able to brave the roads. I was blessed with a free soup and salad lunch. Very yummy! Why is it that salad tastes so much better every where else? Maybe it is because I didn't have to make it. I found my mother in laws birthday present. It is a fold out photo album, which I filled with pictures of Liam and Craig and David and one with me in it. I sure hope she likes it! And the one thing I got for splurge were these....
I just set them there to get them out of the way and there they still are. I kind of like this look.
So as of tonight the weather has broken, the snow is melting and the rain has returned. I have enjoyed our cold snap. But for the little animals that have to live outside I am glad it is over. And maybe the furnace won't kick on every 7 minutes now! But these times in our life where the unexpected happen are a nice change of pace.
I will leave you with a Liamism......'Mommy, I like the ice, it makes me slip, but that's okay, I just get up and go again!"
There you have it...if life hands you a little ice, just get up and go again. Have a wonderful Friday everyone!
